    Farnesyl butanoate (aka farnesyl butyrate) is a sesquiterpene ester used primarily as a fragrance ingredient, imparting warm fruity–floral, slightly honeyed and soft woody nuances while acting as a fixative/odor extender due to its low volatility; it is broadly applied in fine fragrances and body mists, personal‑care bases (shampoos, shower gels, creams), household and fabric‑care scents, as well as candles and air‑care, where it rounds citrus and floral accords, softens green/herbal edges, enhances substantivity on skin and fabric, and contributes a smooth, plush sensorial profile; from a formulation perspective it is readily soluble in oils and perfumery alcohol but only sparingly in water, generally stable across typical cosmetic pH yet susceptible to hydrolysis under strong acid or base, so pH control and suitable antioxidants are advisable, and commercialization should observe IFRA/local regulatory limits together with routine dermal‑sensitization risk assessment common to terpenoid ingredients.
