(Dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (CAS 2867-47-2) is a functional acrylate monomer used to introduce amine functionality into polymers. In industry, its applications include: as a component in waterborne coatings and paints to improve adhesion to polar substrates; as a monomer unit in adhesives and sealants where amine groups enable crosslinking with epoxy or isocyanate hardeners; as a precursor for surfactants and specialty polymers used in paper processing and industrial cleaning; after polymerization it can be quaternized to form ammonium-containing polymers with antimicrobial properties for coatings and surface treatments; in pharmaceutical and biomedical R&D it serves as a building block for water-soluble polymers used in drug and gene delivery; and in ink formulations and electronic/optical coatings where tailored polymer properties are desired.
