  • Applications

Dimethyl phthalate (DMP, CAS 131-11-3) is a colorless liquid phthalate ester widely used as a plasticizer for cellulose acetate, polyvinyl chloride and other thermoplastics to enhance flexibility, impact strength and low-temperature performance, while also serving as a fragrance carrier and fixative in cosmetics, perfumes and deodorants; an anti-crystallizing component in paints, printing inks and varnishes; a film-forming solvent for optical coatings, polyester resins, nitrocellulose and chromatography; an active insect repellent in skin lotions and mosquito nets; a viscosity modifier in lubricating oils and aviation fuels; a processing aid in thermoset polymerization, a dispersant for agrochemicals, a humectant in dye formulations, and is even researched as a high-energy additive in rocket propellants.
