Applications
Dihydrojasmone (CAS 1128-08-1) is a synthetic fragrance ingredient with a jasmine-fruity, slightly citrus peel odour that is widely used in fine perfumes, personal-care cosmetics, household detergents and deodorizing products to impart a fresh green natural note; it functions as a modifier that rounds off white-floral, fruity or marine accords and enhances longevity and diffusion on skin, fabrics and in the air. In food flavouring it is FEMA/GRAS-approved at trace levels to accentuate green-fruity nuances in candies, beverages and dairy goods. The compound also serves as an intermediate for synthesizing bioactive jasmonate derivatives and is employed in studies of plant and insect olfactory signalling owing to its structural similarity to natural messengers. Its compatibility with mild acids/alkalis and excellent heat stability make Dihydrojasmone suitable for air-freshener sprays, scented candles, gel beads, high-temperature laundry powders and encapsulated fragrance systems, and it has even been used as an odour probe in electronic-nose devices for food quality monitoring.
