Applications
Dihydro-β-ionol (CAS 3293-47-8) is a terpenoid alcohol with soft violet/orris, woody and lightly fruity facets, used mainly as a fragrance ingredient to build, round and extend notes in fine fragrances, soaps, shampoos, deodorants, detergents, air care, candles and waxes; its medium volatility and good alkaline/wash stability make it a useful modifier/booster for violet–woody themes, enhancing substantivity on skin and fabrics and smoothing citrus or green accords; it is also employed as an intermediate for ionone/damascone-related aroma chemicals and specialty molecules, and at trace levels occasionally in flavors and tobacco (subject to local IFRA/FEMA guidance), with typical use from traces up to low percent depending on the matrix and desired profile.
