  • Applications

Diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (DGME, CAS 111-77-3) is a high-boiling, slow-evaporating, water-miscible glycol ether solvent widely used as a coupling solvent and coalescent in waterborne paints and coatings to improve flow, wetting and adhesion; in printing and inkjet inks to control dry time, keep printheads hydrated and enhance gloss; in industrial and household cleaners, metal degreasers, paint and adhesive removers as a powerful coupling solvent that dissolves oils, resins, inks and waxes while bridging water-organic phases; in textile and leather processing as a dye carrier and leveling agent, penetrant and softener; in plastics and polymer work as a solvent and diluent for nitrocellulose, acrylics, epoxies, polyvinyl acetate and alkyd resins, and as a medium for electronic photoresist stripping and clean/etch steps; in agrochemical formulations as a solvent and penetration enhancer; in brake fluids, de-icing/anti-freeze and humectant uses thanks to its high boiling point and moisture retention; and in cosmetics and personal care (subject to applicable regulations) as a solvent, fragrance carrier and viscosity modifier, with further roles as a pigment dispersant, aroma fixative, selective extraction agent and additive for metalworking fluids, leveraging DGME’s strong solvency, low volatility and broad compatibility.
