Applications
Dicumyl peroxide is a thermal radical initiator widely used to start polymerization of vinyl monomers (for example, styrene and acrylates) and unsaturated resins, and to act as a crosslinking agent for polyolefins (notably polyethylene) and elastomers such as EPDM. It is used as a curing/initiating agent in silicone rubbers, unsaturated polyester resins, and in coatings, inks, and adhesive formulations relying on free-radical curing to speed cure and build polymer networks. In the electrical and cable processing field, Dicumyl peroxide is used to crosslink polymers to improve heat resistance and dimensional stability. Depending on local regulations and formulation limits, it may be considered for other high-temperature polymer-processing applications.
