  • Applications

Dibutyl suberate is used primarily as a diester plasticizer for PVC, nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, acrylics and selected synthetic rubbers, providing durable flexibility, good low-temperature performance, a lowered brittle point, improved clarity, and resistance to checking; thanks to its low viscosity, very low pour point and good boundary lubrication, it also serves as a base-stock component or viscosity trimmer in synthetic ester lubricants (e.g., compressor oils, precision instruments, light gear oils), as a cold-start improver and friction reducer; additionally it functions as a solvent/modifier in printing inks, coatings and nitrocellulose lacquers to enhance flow, adhesion and crack resistance, and as a carrier for dyes; it may occasionally appear in personal-care formulations as an emollient or fragrance carrier (subject to local regulations), and as an intermediate in synthesis, fitting formulations that require low odor, low volatility, biodegradability and broad polymer compatibility, with attention to hydrolytic stability.
