Applications
Decene (CAS 25339-53-1) is a versatile feedstock used across several industrial sectors. In polymers, it serves as a comonomer for making linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), helping tailor polymer density and chain structure. It is also a key precursor for polyalpha-olefin (PAO) synthetic lubricants, produced by oligomerization and refining. As a surfactant intermediate, 1-decene can be sulfonated to yield alpha-olefin sulfonates (AOS) for household and industrial cleaners, and it can be ethoxylated/alkoxylated to form nonionic surfactants for detergents and personal care products. Additionally, hydroformylation of decene provides C11 alcohols (1-decanol) used as solvents, fragrance components, detergent alcohols, and plasticizer precursors. All routes are subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
