Applications
Cyclopentene (CAS 142-29-0) is a cyclic olefin primarily used as an industrial intermediate and monomer for specialty polymers and resins. In the polymers and plastics sector it can be polymerized or copolymerized to form polycyclopentene and related copolymers for coatings, adhesives, and high-performance materials. In coatings and inks it can serve as an active monomer or a reactive diluent in UV-curable systems. It is also a building block for cyclopentyl derivatives such as cyclopentanol and cyclopentanone through standard functionalization routes. The epoxide derived from cyclopentene, cyclopentene oxide, is a versatile intermediate for further synthesis of polyols and other functional chemicals used in coatings and adhesives.
