Applications
Cyclopentadecanone, 2-methyl- (CAS 52914-66-6) is a macrocyclic ketone with a warm, sweet, slightly animalic musk odor used primarily in perfumery as a premium musk ingredient and fixative for fine fragrances, cosmetics, and home care products (detergents, fabric softeners, air care, scented candles), providing long-lasting substantivity, balanced diffusion, and roundness to accords; additionally, owing to the stability and low vapor pressure of macrocyclic ketones, it is employed in controlled-release fragrance systems (microencapsulation and polymer carriers), as a reference/marker in GC–MS analysis of macrocyclic musks, in sensory studies and structure–odor modeling, and as a scaffold for synthesizing and screening new musk derivatives aligned with sustainability and improved biodegradability compared with polycyclic musks.
