  • Applications

Cyclononadecanone (CAS 6907-38-6) is a macrocyclic ketone used primarily in the fragrance industry as a soft, warm, long-lasting musk component for fine fragrances, cosmetics, and home/personal care; it functions as a fixative that extends longevity, improves diffusion and cleanliness of the dry-down, and blends well with floral, woody, amber, and musky accords; beyond direct odor use it serves as a building block/intermediate to prepare related macrolactones and macrocyclic musks (via transformations such as reduction, Baeyer–Villiger oxidation, amination, etc.), as a reference standard in GC–MS/LC–MS method development for tracking macrocyclic musks in fragrance/cosmetic matrices and in structure–odor relationship studies, and as a model substrate for large-ring chemistry and ring-closing strategies (e.g., metathesis) in academic research and industrial R&D.
