Applications
Cyclohexyltrichlorosilane (CAS 98-12-4) is primarily used as a silane coupling agent and chemical intermediate. It promotes adhesion between inorganic surfaces and organic polymers in coatings, paints, adhesives, and polymer composites by bonding to hydroxyl groups on the surface and into the polymer matrix. It also serves as a precursor to cyclohexyl-containing siloxane polymers and resins for coatings, sealants, and elastomeric materials, contributing to hydrophobicity and network formation. It is widely used to modify inorganic substrates such as glass and silica to improve wetting and bonding in surface-treatment and primer formulations. In addition, it functions as an intermediate in the synthesis of specialty silanes and functional siloxanes for electronics, optics, inks, and adhesive formulations, enabling controlled crosslinking and adhesion promotion. As a reactive chlorosilane, it can participate in hydrolysis and condensation to form crosslinked Si–O–Si networks in moisture-curing silicone systems.
