Applications
Curcumenol (CAS 19431-84-6) is a sesquiterpenoid isolated from Curcuma species, used mainly in pharmacognosy and pharmacology research: as a reference standard for qualitative/quantitative analysis of turmeric extracts by HPLC/LC–MS and for quality control, as a lead scaffold in medicinal chemistry and activity screening; it has been evaluated preclinically for anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, pro-apoptotic activity against tumor cells, hepatoprotective and neuroprotective actions, antimicrobial and anti-fibrotic potential; it is also employed in formulation studies (nanoencapsulation, delivery systems) to improve solubility and bioavailability, and in mechanistic and safety/toxicology studies, though its use remains exploratory and it is not a substitute for approved medicines.
