Applications
Curcumanolide A (CAS 97550-04-4) is a sesquiterpene lactone isolated from Curcuma species; in research it is used as an analytical reference and LC–MS/HPLC marker for quality control and standardization of turmeric-derived botanicals/extracts, as a chemical marker for fingerprinting, as a lead scaffold for bioactivity screening (reported/under investigation for anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, immunomodulatory, and antimicrobial potential) in vitro and in vivo, to probe mechanisms on pathways related to inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis and to build structure–activity relationships, in semisynthetic derivatization and early ADME/tox profiling, and in formulation studies (nanocarriers, liposomes) to enhance solubility and bioavailability; it is also employed in pharmacognosy for quantitation, chemical profiling, metabolomics, and provenance tracing; no approved therapeutic indications exist, so current use is limited to research, preclinical work, and experimental development.
