Applications
Copper sulfate pentahydrate (CAS 7758-99-8) is widely used in agriculture as a fungicide and algaecide for crops, and as a source of Cu2+ for micronutrient formulations; in water treatment and industrial process water, in pools, and in systems for controlling algae and other aquatic organisms; in electroplating and metal finishing, supplying copper ions in plating baths and related processes; as a reagent and Cu2+ source in analytical chemistry and chemical synthesis; as a mordant in natural-dye dyeing to fix colors on textile fibers; and in copper-based wood preservative formulations to inhibit decay and microbial growth.
