  • Applications

Civetone (CAS 542-46-1) is a macrocyclic ketone with a warm, soft, slightly animalic musk odor, used primarily in perfumery as a signature musk note and high-substantivity fixative for fine and niche fragrances and personal care (body wash, shampoo, deodorants), as well as home and fabric care scents (soaps, detergents, softeners, candles), where it extends longevity, rounds and enriches floral, woody, amber, leather, and oriental accords, and enhances diffusion and fabric substantivity; it is widely employed as an ethical replacement for natural civet, performs at very low dosages, blends well with ambroxide/ambroxan, Iso E Super, sandalwood, patchouli, rose, and jasmine, shows good stability in alkaline soaps and suitability for laundry microencapsulation, and also serves in aroma and macrocycle research (as a reference compound, in olfactory studies, and as a scaffold for derivatives), with usage aligned to safety assessments and IFRA guidelines.
