  • Applications

Chromous chloride (chromium(II) chloride) is primarily used as a mild one-electron reducing agent in organic synthesis and as a precursor to chromium(II) organometallic reagents for carbon–carbon bond formation. It also provides Cr(II) for coordination chemistry and catalytic systems in research and development, and serves as a synthesis intermediate or specialized reagent in industrial chemical manufacturing. Additionally, Cr(II) species derived from CrCl2 are studied in polymerization and materials science contexts as catalysts or activating reagents. Use is subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
