Applications
Chlorotrifluoroethylene (CAS 79-38-9) is primarily used as the monomer to synthesize fluoropolymers such as poly(chlorotrifluoroethylene) (PCTFE) and CTFE-TFE copolymers. These polymers offer excellent barrier properties and chemical resistance, making them widely used in high-barrier packaging films for food and pharmaceutical products; protective coatings for reactors, pipelines, and equipment in chemical processing; electrical insulation and dielectric films in electronics; and cryogenic or vacuum insulation materials for aerospace, cryogenic storage, and industrial insulation applications. CTFE may also be evaluated as a precursor for specialty fluoropolymer formulations and coatings where low permeability and chemical resistance are required.
