  • Applications

Chloroplatinic acid (CAS 16941-12-1) is a key platinum precursor used to prepare platinum-based catalysts for a range of industrial processes, including hydrogenation, hydrocracking, and reforming, as well as for fuel-cell electrocatalysts via impregnation on supports such as carbon or oxides. It also serves as a Pt source for producing Pt-on-support catalysts used in refinery and fine-chemical synthesis. In surface engineering and electronics, it is used as a bath constituent for platinum electroplating and for depositing Pt-containing coatings or thin films on substrates to improve conductivity and wear resistance. Additionally, chloroplatinic acid is a convenient starting material for synthesizing Pt complexes and Pt nanoparticles that support catalysis research and materials science.
