  • Applications

Cetyl trimethoxysilane (CAS 16415-12-6) is a long-chain organosilane typically used as a silane coupling agent and surface modifier. In practice, it is employed to treat inorganic fillers such as silica and mineral pigments and to size glass fibers, improving compatibility with organic polymers, enhancing adhesion, and imparting hydrophobic, moisture-resistant surfaces. It is widely used in coatings, paints, and inks to form hydrophobic siloxane networks and reduce surface energy; in polymer composites and plastics formulations to compatibilize fillers and improve mechanical properties and weather resistance; as a reactive intermediate to build siloxane or hybrid organic–inorganic networks in coatings and sealants; and in electronic protective coatings or encapsulants where surface modification and adhesion promotion are beneficial.
