Applications
Caryophyllenol I (CAS 32214-88-3) is a caryophyllane-type sesquiterpenoid alcohol; in fragrance–flavor R&D it serves as a woody–spicy, green-resinous odorant and a fine-tuning ingredient for peppery/terpenic accords in experimental perfumes, personal-care prototypes, and model foods; in analytics it is employed as a GC–MS/GC–FID reference standard/retention-index marker for quantitation, method validation, and fingerprinting of essential oils (clove, black pepper, basil, Cannabis sativa), as well as for tracking β-caryophyllene oxidation during extraction, storage, and heating; in synthesis it provides a chiral natural-product scaffold/intermediate for epoxidation, oxidation, esterification, and rearrangements to build libraries of caryophyllane derivatives; in biology it is screened as a natural-product lead for receptor-interaction studies, antimicrobial assays, and insect-repellency tests; in formulation science it is used to study microencapsulation, cyclodextrin inclusion, controlled fragrance release, and light/oxygen stability; for research use only, with safety assessment and regulatory compliance required prior to any commercial deployment.
