Applications
Cadmium oxide (CdO, CAS 1306-19-0) is used primarily as a precursor and colorant for cadmium pigments in ceramics, glass, and coatings (cadmium yellow to orange). It also serves in electronics and optoelectronics as an n-type semiconductor material and as a component in transparent conducting oxide systems and sensor devices. In polymer processing, cadmium-based stabilizers have historically been used to stabilize PVC and other plastics, although usage is increasingly restricted by safety regulations. CdO can be employed as a precursor to cadmium-containing oxides and pigments and may act as a dopant or base material in oxide-based functional materials for research and specialty applications.
