    beta‑Vetispirene (CAS 28908‑27‑2) is a natural sesquiterpene with a woody, earthy, slightly smoky profile, applied in: (i) fragrance compounding for fine perfumes, personal care, candles and air care to build a deep, warm base, modulate diffusion and enhance longevity; (ii) flavor formulation at trace levels to add woody/earthy nuances to beverages, cocoa, tobacco and spice notes; (iii) quality control and authentication of vetiver oil and related botanicals as a fingerprint marker and adulteration indicator using GC‑MS/GC‑FID, GC‑O and retention‑index matching; (iv) analytical quantitation as a reference/internal standard for sesquiterpenes in aroma, stability and residue studies; (v) biosynthesis and materials research as a target to probe sesquiterpene cyclases, biotransformations, and microencapsulation/controlled‑release strategies to improve stability and odor delivery; and (vi) chemical ecology and insect‑management research, where it is evaluated as a plant volatile signal and a candidate repellent/attractant in lab assays—serving both as a character‑defining odorant and a practical analytical benchmark in flavor and fragrance development.
