Applications
(−)-β-Pinene (CAS 18172-67-3) is a naturally occurring monoterpene obtained mainly from conifer essential oils; its characteristic pine-like aroma makes it valuable as a flavour and fragrance ingredient in perfumes, foods, scented candles and deodorizers, while its chiral skeleton serves as a key starting material for the synthesis of borneol, camphor, linalool, terpineol and other bioactive terpenes used in pharmaceuticals, biopesticides, green solvents, alkyd resins, bio-fuel additives and antimicrobial, insect-repellent cleaning products.
