Applications
Benzenemethanol, ar-methoxy-, 1-acetate (CAS 35480-25-2) is an aromatic acetate ester of ar-methoxybenzyl alcohol; used mainly as a fragrance ingredient adding sweet anisic, vanilla-like, white-floral and balsamic facets to fine fragrances, soaps, detergents, personal care, candles and air-care; functions as a modifier/fixative with moderate volatility and as a solvent/coupling aid for perfume oils in household formulations; in flavors it is dosed at very low levels to enhance licorice/anise, creamy-dairy, cocoa, fruit and baked-goods notes in beverages and confectionery; serves as an organic synthesis intermediate to access methoxybenzyl derivatives (e.g., PMB protecting group) and other benzylic transformations, protecting hydroxyls in routes to APIs, aroma chemicals and fine chemicals; also used as a GC/MS reference/internal standard and for QC of fragrance raw materials and aroma-release studies; formulation caveats: esters may hydrolyze under strong alkaline pH and heat/moisture, so neutral–acidic systems are preferred; verify stability and comply with IFRA and food-use limits (e.g., FEMA/GRAS where applicable) and local regulations while following standard GHS safety practices.
