Applications
Arteannuin B (CAS 50906-56-4) is a natural sesquiterpene lactone from Artemisia annua used primarily as an analytical reference and marker for quality control of botanicals, extracts, and artemisinin-related products (HPLC/LC–MS quantitation, impurity/isomer profiling); in research it serves as a shunt metabolite in the artemisinin biosynthetic pathway, enabling enzyme elucidation, breeding/metabolic engineering, and culture optimization to enhance supply; its sesquiterpene scaffold is leveraged for semisynthesis and structure–activity studies of derivatives with potential antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects, and it has been investigated for in vitro bioactivities such as insecticidal and antibacterial actions; it is not an approved drug and is mainly for research use, requiring appropriate handling and storage away from light/oxygen, and is widely used as a system-suitability and impurity reference standard.
