Applications
Argon (CAS 7440-37-1) is widely used as an inert shielding and purge gas across multiple industries. In arc welding and metal fabrication, it provides a protective atmosphere for MIG and TIG processes. In high-temperature annealing and heat treatment of reactive metals (such as titanium and stainless steel), Argon minimizes oxidation and contamination. The electronics and semiconductor sectors use Argon for plasma etching, chemical vapor deposition, and wafer processing under inert conditions. In glass, ceramics, and optics manufacturing, Argon helps prevent oxidation during melting and coating. It also serves as a fill gas in discharge lamps and other lighting applications. Additionally, Argon is used to create inert headspaces in food and beverage packaging to slow oxidation and extend shelf life.
