Applications
Aluminum hydroxide (ATH) is widely used as a flame-retardant filler and smoke suppressant in polymer systems, plastics, coatings and polymer composites; it also serves as a white pigment and functional filler in paper, paints and printing inks; in water treatment it functions as a coagulant aid and adsorbent to help remove impurities; in pharmaceutical formulations it is used as an antacid and a phosphate binder; and as a precursor to alumina, it is employed in ceramic bodies, glazes and refractory materials.
