Applications
Alpha-Terpinyl acetate (CAS 8007-35-0) is a fragrant ester found in essential oils such as cardamom, cypress, and petitgrain, valued for its sweet, herbal, subtly fruity aroma with citrus–pine–lavender nuances; in perfumery it builds cologne, fougère, and chypre accords, rounds off sharp citrus or pine notes, and serves as a modifier and semi-fixative to balance evaporation; in personal care and home care it imparts a clean pleasant scent to soaps, shampoos, body washes, creams, detergents, air fresheners, wax melts, and candles, and it is used for odor masking in technical formulations; in flavor applications at very low levels it lends a cardamom-like fruity–herbal tone to beverages, confectionery, chewing gum, and baked goods; formulators should note that esters may hydrolyze under alkaline conditions, so stability in high-pH soaps and strong cleaners must be verified, along with compatibility in emulsions and with surfactants; it is also used to boost natural oil profiles, as a diluent in fragrance compounding, and occasionally as an intermediate for terpenoid synthesis; always follow IFRA guidance and local safety regulations, assess color/odor stability and allergen labeling, and note that aromatherapy use targets ambience and sensory experience rather than therapeutic claims.
