  • Applications

Alpha-damascone (CAS 43052-87-5) is a very powerful ketone aroma chemical with a rosy–fruity profile showing apple, plum, berry and light tobacco facets, widely used in fine perfumery to enrich reconstructed rose notes, add depth to fruity, chypre, oriental and woody accords, and boost diffusion and substantivity at very low levels; in personal care (shampoos, shower gels, soaps, lotions) and home care (fabric softeners, laundry and hard-surface cleaners, air care, candles) to deliver a clean, luxurious signature and mask malodors; and at trace levels in flavors to accentuate apple, strawberry/raspberry, plum, black tea, wine or tobacco nuances in beverages and confectionery, as well as to rebuild natural rose character in complex matrices; owing to its high odor potency and low detection threshold it is typically dosed sparingly, blends well with ionones, damascenone, linalool, geraniol, citral and green blackcurrant materials for cassis effects, and should be used in line with relevant safety guidance (e.g., IFRA for fragrances) for each end use.
