8-Methylnonan-2-one (CAS 64303-47-5) is a branched-chain ketone of medium volatility used mainly as an aroma chemical in fine fragrance and home care to add fatty-waxy, citrus-peel and green nuances, improving diffusion and linkage in citrus, chypre and fougère accords; as a trace flavor modifier to tune ripe-fruity or buttery-dairy notes where regulations allow; as a solvent/co-solvent for resins, waxes and oils in coatings, inks and adhesives requiring moderate evaporation; as an intermediate in fine-organic synthesis (reduction to the corresponding alcohol, formation of oxime/hydrazone derivatives for analytical purposes, or further transformations toward longer-chain molecules); as a reference or internal standard in GC-MS to establish retention indices in the C10 ketone region and to evaluate isomer separation; and as a tool in sensory and structure-odor research on branched alkanones; all uses should follow safety assessment and applicable IFRA/REACH and SDS guidance.
