Applications
4,4'-Methylenebis(2,6-di-tert-butylphenol) (CAS 118-82-1) is a hindered phenol antioxidant used primarily as a polymer stabilizer to prevent thermal-oxidative degradation in polyolefins and other plastics during processing and in service. It is commonly employed as a primary antioxidant in plastic formulations, often alongside phosphite stabilizers; it also serves as an antioxidant additive in lubricating oils and hydraulic fluids to extend oil life. In coatings and inks, it acts as a stabilizer against aging and yellowing, and it is used in rubber compounds to improve aging resistance. It may also be used as an antioxidant stabilizer in adhesive formulations to improve shelf life of the finished products.
