  • Applications

4-n-Octylphenol (CAS 1806-26-4) serves primarily as a building block for nonionic surfactants, namely octylphenol ethoxylates, which find use in industrial and household cleaners, paints and coatings, and metalworking fluids. It is also an intermediate for alkylphenol–formaldehyde resins used in coatings, laminates, and adhesives. Additionally, it can be a feedstock for specialty chemicals such as hindered phenolic antioxidants and stabilizers for polymers, and may participate in polymer processing formulations as a resin modifier or processing aid.
