Applications
3-Methyl-2-propylphenol (CAS 62744-64-3) is an alkylphenol with a reactive phenolic OH used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and fine chemicals; as a precursor to functional phenolic scaffolds, polymer antioxidants and stabilizers, lubricant/fuel additives, and as a building block for phenolic resins, tackifiers, and curing components; leveraging its radical-scavenging and interfacial properties, it has also been investigated for antimicrobial roles, mild preservative effects, and warm phenolic odor notes in personal care/household formulations (in R&D contexts, subject to regulation), and is employed as an analytical reference standard for GC/LC–MS method development, a reference in structure–property studies of alkylphenols, and a convenient starting point for O-alkylation, acylation, or sulfonation to access surfactants, specialty additives, and tailored derivatives.
