Applications
2,6-Xylenol (2,6-dimethylphenol, CAS 576-26-1) is an ortho-dimethyl-substituted phenol widely recognized as the key monomer for making high-performance poly(phenylene oxide)/poly(phenylene ether) engineering plastics with excellent thermal and electrical resistance; it also serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of antioxidants for plastics and rubber, heat-stable fuel and lubricant additives, precursors for fungicides, dyes, phenolic disinfectants, metal corrosion inhibitors, and certain specialty pharmaceuticals, while further being incorporated into the production of advanced epoxy and phenolic resins.
