Applications
2,6-Dimethyl-2,4,6-octatriene (CAS 3016-19-1) is a conjugated triene monoterpene hydrocarbon used mainly as a synthetic building block and reaction probe: a precursor to terpene and flavor–fragrance frameworks, an intermediate for ring construction via Diels–Alder chemistry, a substrate for hydrosilylation, hydroboration, epoxidation, and radical additions; an analytical GC/GC–MS reference and a photochemical model for E/Z isomerization, trans-addition, and autoxidation; a tool to study mechanisms and catalytic selectivity in triene additions and the polymerization/copolymerization behavior of polyenes; it also supports fragrance R&D, cosmetic intermediates, and aroma stability optimization in consumer product formulations.
