    2,3-Epoxy-geranyl acetate (CAS 76638-49-8) is an epoxidized monoterpene used primarily as a versatile intermediate in flavor–fragrance and organic synthesis: its electrophilic epoxide enables selective ring-opening under acidic/basic conditions or by nucleophiles (alcohols, amines, thiols) to generate diols, amino alcohols, thioethers, and halohydrins that serve as precursors to aroma ingredients and as building blocks for consumer additives; in R&D it functions as a model substrate for asymmetric ring-opening, thiol–epoxy coupling, and epoxide-hydrolase biotransformations to access enantioenriched diols/monoacetates, as well as an isoprenyl fragment in medicinal and agrochemical routes; additionally, leveraging its reactivity and hydrophobic terpene scaffold, it can be used at low loadings as a reactive modifier or functional module in cationic/UV-curable coatings and materials to tune surface and sensory properties, with attention to epoxide safety handling and applicable regulatory constraints.
