Applications
2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl methacrylate (CAS 352-87-4) is commonly used as a fluorinated methacrylate monomer to impart chemical resistance and weatherability to polymers via the trifluoroethyl group; in practice, it is often employed in protective coatings and paints to form low-surface-energy, solvent-resistant films; it is also used as a component in adhesives and sealants to improve adhesion and environmental performance; in addition, it participates in specialty polymers and copolymers to yield fluorinated polymers and protective films; it can serve as a reactive monomer in UV-curable systems to produce UV-cured coatings and inks; and as a surface-modifying monomer to create low-energy films for electronics and optics.
