Applications
2-Vinylpyridine is primarily used as a monomer to produce poly(2-vinylpyridine) and pyridine-containing copolymers, enabling ion-exchange resins and metal-chelating supports for catalysts; in coatings and inks, it provides pyridine functionality to improve adhesion and metal complexing in the coating; in the development of electronic materials and sensors, pyridine-containing polymers enable improved recognition and electrochemical response; pyridine-containing polymers also serve as adsorbents to remove metal ions in water treatment; additionally, it is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds for pharmaceutical fine chemicals; these applications are subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
