Applications
2-Undecanol (CAS 1653-30-1) is a C11 secondary alcohol used mainly as an intermediate and functional ingredient: feedstock for oxidation to 2-undecanone and for esterification/etherification to make fragrance esters and plasticizer components; a hydrophobic building block for surfactants, emulsifiers and processing additives owing to its high boiling point and amphiphilic character; a high-boiling co-solvent/diluent for resins, coatings, inks and waxes; a lubricity and processing aid in oils, fuels and metalworking fluids; and a reference standard/model substrate in catalysis and analytical research (e.g., secondary-alcohol oxidation, dehydration, transfer hydrogenation), as well as a C11 fragment to construct specialty materials and agro/pharma intermediates.
