Applications
2-Tridecanol (CAS 1653-31-2) is a long-chain secondary alcohol used primarily as an intermediate for surfactant manufacture: nonionic ethoxylates/propoxylates for detergents, hard-surface cleaners, and emulsifier/dispersant packages in agrochemicals, paints, inks, and coatings; its sulfate or phosphate esters yield anionic wetting, emulsifying, and dispersing agents for textile processing, industrial cleaning, and oilfield chemicals; the C13 hydrophobe and secondary OH favor high lipophilicity and low pour point, benefiting defoamers, lubricant and metalworking-fluid additives (lubricity), cutting-oil packages, and rheology modifiers in greases and plastics; additionally, 2-tridecanol serves as a co-solvent/viscosity modifier for hydrophobic actives, a foam-control and leveling aid in coatings, a wetting/adhesion promoter on mineral substrates, and a precursor to esters used as emollients in personal care or as surface-modifying components in adhesives and sealants; specific use depends on purity and on the derived chemistry (degree of oxyalkylation, esterification, or neutralization).
