Applications
2-Methoxyphenylacetic acid (CAS 93-25-4) is a versatile synthetic intermediate and building block, providing an o-methoxy–substituted phenylacetic acid scaffold for assembling amides, esters, anhydrides, and acid chlorides in pharmaceutical discovery/development (receptor ligands, potential analgesic/anti-inflammatory and CNS-active derivatives), agrochemicals, and fragrance/flavor work via anisic-toned esters; it is also used in medicinal chemistry for SAR exploration, as an acylating partner for heterocycles/aromatic amines in diversity-oriented (including asymmetric) syntheses, in directed aromatic functionalization enabled by the OMe group (to access halogenated/nitrated/sulfonylated derivatives), as an LC/GC reference standard, and as a precursor to metal salts or functional polymers via its carboxyl group.
