Applications
2‑Ethyl‑m‑xylene (CAS 2870‑04‑4) is a C10H14 aromatic hydrocarbon used primarily as a high‑boiling solvent and process medium in coatings, inks, adhesives and sealants; as a versatile intermediate for producing multi‑alkylbenzene derivatives used in resins (alkyd, polyester), plasticizers, lubricant additives, antioxidants, UV stabilizers, dyes, and agro/pharma intermediates; as a substrate for oxidation, halogenation, sulfonation/nitration or chloromethylation to access aromatic acids/aldehydes and specialty monomers/hardeners; as a carrier in oilfield chemicals, an extraction solvent and a diluent to tune evaporation rate; and as a GC reference/internal standard for profiling petrochemical streams and environmental monitoring due to its stability and clean chromatographic response.
