    2-Ethylfenchol is a solid monoterpenoid with a sweet pine-woody, earthy freshness; in the fragrance industry it is employed as a green-herbal backbone that fixes and enriches floral, citrus, fougère and musky accords while extending longevity in fine perfumes, soaps, shampoos, deodorants, scented candles and air fresheners; in flavour work it is added at trace levels to mint candies, chewing gum and herb-flavoured beverages to give depth and a cool nuance; thanks to its thermally stable bicyclic skeleton the compound also serves as an intermediate for the synthesis of ester perfumery ingredients, bioactive pharmaceutical derivatives, natural insect repellents and chiral auxiliaries in advanced organic chemistry.
