Applications
2-Dodecanone (CAS 6175-49-1) is a medium-to-long chain methyl ketone with wide-ranging uses: as a fragrance ingredient imparting fatty, waxy, slightly fruity/flowery notes in fine fragrances, personal care, detergents, and deodorizing products; as a high-boiling solvent/coalescent and solubilizing aid in inks, coatings, and adhesives due to slow evaporation and compatibility with many resins; as a synthetic intermediate toward specialty chemicals such as surfactants, specialty lubricants, and pharma/agro precursors; as a GC/MS reference standard for profiling methyl ketones; as a model substrate in catalytic oxidation, Baeyer–Villiger oxidation, and oxime/hydrazone derivatization studies; it has also been investigated for antimicrobial and insect-repellent potential, with practical deployment subject to regulatory approval and safety assessment; formulators value its mild odor, good thermal/oxidative stability, and robust solvency for warm, substantive notes and durable performance.
