2-Clovanol (CAS 11023-21-5) is a clovane-framework sesquiterpene alcohol used primarily in R&D: as a reference/analytical standard for terpenoids and essential oils in GC–MS, GC–FID, and NMR to support identification, quantitation, and instrument calibration; for method development in chromatography (including stereochemical resolution) and structure/configuration assignment; as a synthetic starting point (oxidations, esterifications, biotransformations) to build derivative libraries for SAR, toxicity, and early bioactivity screening; as a model in studies of terpenoid biosynthesis and metabolic pathways by enzymes or microbes; in fragrance science for olfactory research and structure–odor relationship work (without implying commercial use), as well as for assessing physico-chemical properties (volatility, logP) and early ADME modeling; and for training, inter-laboratory comparisons, and spectral database development; it is generally supplied for research purposes, not approved as a drug or food additive, and should be handled in compliance with chemical safety and regulatory requirements.
