Applications
2-Butenoic acid, 2-methyl-, hexyl ester, (2E)- (also known as hexyl tiglate, CAS 16930-96-4) is a fruity fragrance/flavor ester widely used to impart crisp pear–apple, tropical and green-waxy nuances: in foods and beverages, confectionery, dairy and baked goods at very low dosages; in perfumery as a bright top/middle note within fruity, floral-green and tropical accords, and across personal care, soaps, detergents, fabric softeners, candles and air care where it delivers good diffusion and moderate fabric substantivity; formulators often blend it with C6–C8 esters, cis-3-hexenyl acetate, linalool and C6–C10 aldehydes to lift green–citrus accords; it is also used as a masking/rounding agent in oral pharmaceuticals and syrups, as a reference standard for GC–MS and sensory training, and as a building block for R&D on encapsulation and controlled-release scent in laundry applications; note that it can hydrolyze under strong acid/alkali or elevated temperature, so store sealed, cool and light-protected, and verify stability and category limits per local food and IFRA regulations before commercialization.
