Applications
(1R,2R,5R)-5-Methyl-2-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexanol is a chiral monoterpenoid alcohol (an isopulegol stereoisomer) used as a fragrance and flavor ingredient to impart fresh minty–herbal notes to perfumes, personal care products, household cleaners, and food flavors at low dosages; it serves as a key intermediate in industrial menthol manufacture (via selective hydrogenation of isopulegol), as a chiral building block for asymmetric synthesis, and to make derivatives (e.g., esters, carbonates, ureas) employed as cooling agents, odor modifiers, and components of controlled-release fragrance systems; in R&D, the compound and its derivatives are also investigated for antimicrobial and insect-repellent effects, CNS-related bioactivities, and applications in fragrance encapsulation materials.
