  • Applications

1-Octene (CAS 111-66-0) is a highly reactive linear alpha-olefin widely used as a comonomer in the manufacture of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to enhance flexibility, tensile strength and heat-sealability, as a feedstock for epoxidation, oxidation or hydration reactions that generate derivatives such as 1,2-octanediol, n-octanol and octanoic acid employed in plastics, adhesives, coatings and lubricant additives; it also serves as an alkylating agent in the synthesis of surfactants, detergents and emulsifiers, as a precursor for PVC plasticizers and high-performance polyalphaolefin (PAO) synthetic lubricants, as an intermediate for fragrances, flavors and specialty solvents in pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, and as a reference standard and reactive building block in organic chemistry research.
